yearbook design
student life
I designed this spread alongside Grace Yount, a second-year staff member, for the 2021 yearbook discussing the 2020 election. It features the Electoral College map that I created in Adobe Photoshop, a timeline of the election and multiple modular elements showcasing student and public figure opinions. We wanted to include as much information as possible in an effective way while remaining objective and informative.

I showcased students with the biggest TikTok followings at our school on this student life spread. Using modular elements and drawings, I incorporated elements from TikTok, such as the phone and logo. Each mod focuses on a different aspect of the popular social media app. Using the hearts from the app, I created a visualization showing the percentage of students that make TikToks at my school. I used a sideways bar graph to show students' favorite trends and the poll shows when students prefer to watch TikToks. The other elements showcase individual students and information about their claim to fame. This spread won a FSPA All-Florida Award for Yearbook Student Life Spread in the 2020 Spring Digital Contests.

I included this spread in both the design and writing sections of my portfolio because I believe that this clip demonstrates my skill in both areas. I created this spread as a collection of local and national information about the coronavirus. To create the outlined graphics (USA and graduation hat), I used ProCreate to draw them and converted them into vector graphics. I included the use of polls to display students' opinions. I also used the visual of the coronavirus as a background piece for the page, allowing it to stand out from other spreads in the yearbook. I submitted this page into the NSPA Outstanding Coronavirus Coverage contest and earned first place.

For this spread, I created the photo illustration used in the background. It strategically worked with the design of the spread, allowing space for the story, data and pull quote. I created this by taking a photo and cutting out the the shoes, and placing it on top of the original image with a low opacity. This combined my photography and design skills to portray that a student skipped class by walking toward the back gate of our school campus. This design related to the theme of the yearbook and exhibited my execution of the Editor-in-Chief's vision for the student life issue spreads in the 2019 yearbook.

theme
I designed this for the cover of our 2020 yearbook. Together with Mia Michael, the 2020 Editor-in-Chief, we came up with the corner graphic, which we used throughout the book to visually represent our theme, 'The Turning Point.' Here, the girl overlaps the corner graphic and allows the text to have its own strategic space to exist in. The corner graphic is also in a smaller form around 'Legend 2020.' For high school students, I felt this visualized our theme because it represented a turn in a road and all the turning points we encountered throughout the way. The colors are a variation of our school colors: orange, white and carolina blue.

This is the 2020 yearbook sports divider and a theme page. Combined with theme elements, the divider showcases my sports photography. Theme pages work to carry out the theme message, The Turning Point, throughout the yearbook. On dividers, the featured student shared their "turning point" in relation to the section they represented. The gradient effect displayed gradual change. This visualized how a turning point in someone's life can be gradual or immediate.

I designed this page as the closing for our 2020 yearbook. Due to the coronavirus, we did not complete the spring supplement which usually covered spring sports and events. To cover these athletes, we decided to feature them on the closing theme page. The page held theme elements effectively such as our main design element, the "turn" behind the baseball player. It also incorporated the gradient which, as stated before, represented gradual change.

sports
For the 2021 yearbook, I designed this girls volleyball spread. This year, we challenged our creativity by going beyond basic yearbook design. We experimented with overlapping photos, different headline packages and constructed more unique mods as opposed to previous years. I wanted to visually show the theme on each spread. This is demonstrated in the photo cluster on the bottom left in the slanted photo boxes and in the mod on the bottom right with the outline of the shape.

academics
For my second deadline as a staffer, I designed this spread for the academic section of our book. I won a FSPA All-Florida Award in the Academic/Organization Yearbook Spread section. I enjoyed this design because of the vertical dominant photo, which brings the whole spread together. The colors complement one another well and the design displays my confidence in basic yearbook design, copy writing, and photography.

clubs
With my partner for this deadline, L'Wren Johnson, I designed this spread for the club section. We faced the challenge of cohesively portraying three dance clubs on one spread. Since the main story discussed the Bravettes' season, we decided to make them the dominant photo as well. The mod on the bottom left features Dance Club and the top left corner is dedicated to the Step Team.

2020 mods
For the 2020 yearbook, I designed multiple mods utilizing the corner graphic displayed on the cover. We used this graphic in multiple places and sizes to convey the theme on each spread of the yearbook.
2021 mods
Utilizing this year's design elements: angled shapes, thin lines, think lines and overlapping elements, I designed these mods for the 2021 yearbook. Designed for versatile use, staffers accessed the mods from an InDesign template and used them on their spreads. They changed the content, color, and size of the mods. I also included the scoreboard that went on every sport spread in the yearbook and in the sports reference section.
